Short Duration Signals No Longer An Issue for PLCs
mmu_module-smRetrofitting in-process force measurement can present many challenges.  Some of these include sensor integration, and high production cycle rates; sometimes the sensing system or PLC just can’t respond fast enough for reliable performance.   OES has developed an effective solution for these applications with a new Piezo Strain sensor combined with an amplifier module featuring Sample Hold.

The Sample Hold feature of the Piezo Strain Transducer and Amplifier Module (model MMU) from OES Inc. allows even older PLC systems to stay in synch with the fastest production cycles.  The MMU captures and “holds” the peak reading until the PLC can scan and reset the sample hold value.  This feature ensures high reliability in force measurement for fast machine cycles.

mmu_cntrlr_w_sensor_-_smThe Piezo Strain Transducer and Amplifier Module is a force measurement solution for use in a wide range of process monitoring and control applications.  The system comprising of a Piezo Strain sensor and DIN rail mounted module can be installed and running in a matter of minutes.  Its high resolution analogue output (0-5VDC) can be directly correlated to units of force.  This system is ideally suited for monitoring and verifying stamping, crimping, press fit, riveting or other force fabrication applications, including material presence and misalignment.  “If there is force involved in the process, our technology can very likely monitor it”, says Mike Reeve, VP Marketing and Sales for OES Inc.

OES is an experienced leader with in-process quality monitoring technologies, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2005.  OES Inc. develops and deploys many extremely effective “in-process test and monitoring” solutions for a wide range of applications, including wire crimping, tube end-forming, crimp forming, riveting, and other pressing and forming applications.
