In-Process Quality Monitoring Solutions

OES Process Quality Monitoring and Inspection products are designed to help manufacturers meet the dual challenges of achieving higher quality and lowering production costs . OES has been an innovator and a leader in this field since 1985.

By providing non-intrusive and cost effective monitoring and quality assurance products for manufacturers, OES is able to offer their customers solutions that can greatly reduce scrap costs, improve operational efficiency of critical equipment, and help ensure that defective parts or products do not make it to the customer.

Process Variation Monitors: An effective way to help ensure good parts are actually being produced is to assure that the manufacturing process remains quality capable while producing each part.  That is what the Process Variation Monitoring systems from OES are designed to do.

The "P.V.M." family of process variation monitoring systems will accommodate a wide range of sensor technologies based on the application in order to monitor the “pulse” of the process – i.e. force, pressure, displacement, load, strain, etc.  The systems are sensitive enough to detect variations in the material, improper presentation of the material, worn tooling, or broken equipment that can lead to production faults.

Any variation that occurs in any of these “inputs” will result in a difference in the strain or load on the manufacturing equipment itself, indicating that the resultant part has not been produced according to the previously “learned” good parts.  By continuously monitoring production input experienced by the manufacturing equipment it is possible to detect variance that can mean the process is no longer quality capable.

In-process monitoring provides an increased confidence in the quality of the end product without adding manufacturing time or expense. Detecting process variations that can lead to defects as soon as they occur prevents manufacturing value from being added to parts that will be scrapped.  This helps reduce costs and increase the operational efficiency of the manufacturing process. By catching defects at the source, manufacturers can have confidence that defective parts are less likely to be inadvertently shipped to the customer.

The application of weather seals onto the wire introduces potential for quality defects including seal not present, incorrect seal orientation, and improper seal position on the wire.   It is widely accepted that crimp force monitors and process monitoring solutions, regardless of brand, have limited capability for detection of these potential defects.
